Released on 7 July 1967 All You Need Is Love spent 3 weeks at number one in the UK charts. This was the first single where George Martin received a producer credit and, when re released as part of the It Was Twenty Years Ago Today series (see picture disc below) it was the first Beatles single to be released on cassette. I have 7 copies on 7″ single, the 5 listed below and 2 more in singles box sets. I also have a 12″ version, details of which can be found here
The pictures below are of my first press copy which has the matrix numbers 7XCE 18425-2 and 7XCE 18426-1 and a KT tax code. What marks it out as a first press, and makes it quite rare, is that it doesn’t have Recorded during Live World Television Transmission under the title like all subsequent copies. The record has quite a few light marks but plays extremely well, just some feint crackle, mainly on the run ins. There are no skips, sticks or jumps. The sleeve too is also in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures.
Estimated Value : £35 – £40
The pictures below are of my second press copy which has the matrix numbers 7XCE 18425-1 and 7XCE 18426-1 and a KT tax code. First press copies, which are quite rare, do not have Recorded during Live World Television Transmission under the title whilst a third press does not have the SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS text in the centre. The record has some light surface marks but plays very well, just some odd bits of feint crackle, and, for the time being, has only a plain sleeve.
Estimated Value : £3 – £5
Fourth Press (Green Sleeve)
In March 1976 all the Beatles singles were re released in new picture sleeves. I believe there is no difference at all in any of these pressings but, for the record, mine has the matrix numbers 7XCE 18425-1 and 7XCE 18426-3. The record, just some odd very feint crackle, plays excellent throughout whilst the sleeve would probably rate very good with some ringwear, creasing and a small stain on the back.
Estimated Value : £5
Released on 6 July 1987 as part of the It Was Twenty Years Ago Today series. Being a picture disc I have never played it but it appears to be in excellent condition.
Estimated Value : £15 – £20
Capitol For Jukebox Only
In 1994 Capitol issued 15 Beatles singles on coloured vinyl in jukebox only style under their CEMA banner (they issued another 15 in 1996). Below is my copy of All You Need Is Love on pink vinyl. Being on coloured vinyl I have never played it but it appears to be in excellent condition. It comes in a plain white sleeve.
Estimated Value : £10
