I have 5 copies of Beatles For Sale on vinyl (2 are in the mono and stereo box sets). These are my first press mono copy, first press stereo copy and sixth press stereo copy.

Mono First Press

The pictures below are the first press mono one which was released on 4 December 1964. The matrix numbers on this copy are XEX 503-3N and XEX 504-3N. The perimeter text starts The Parlophone Co Ltd, there is Sold in U.K. subject… text below the yellow Parlophone and at 9 o’clock on the label it states Recording first published 1964 – on second presses the perimeter text reads All Rights Of The Producer, the Sold in U.K. subject… text is not there and at 9 o’clock on the label it just reads p 1964

The sleeve is in very good condition, as seen from the pictures and the record itself also plays very well. There is some feint crackle here and there but no skips or jumps

Estimated Value : £30 – £40

Stereo First Press

The pictures below are the rarer first press stereo one which was released on 4 December 1964. The matrix numbers on this copy are YEX 142-1 and YEX 143-1. The perimeter text starts The Parlophone Co Ltd, there is Sold in U.K. subject… text below the yellow Parlophone and at 9 o’clock on the label it states Recording first published 1964 – on second presses from 1965 the perimeter text reads The Gramophone Co Ltd, the Sold in U.K. subject… text is still there but at 9 o’clock on the label it just reads p 1964

The sleeve is in good to very good condition, as seen from the pictures, there is a bit of tape at the top and bottom of the spine as the notoriously flimsy opening inside is slightly torn. The record itself plays very well. There is some crackle on both sides, mostly noticable between tracks and in quieter parts, but no skips or jumps

Estimated Value : £40 – £50

Stereo Sixth Press

Below this are pictures of my stereo version which was pressed some time between the summer of 1976 and October 1980. I’ve marked it down as a sixth press as the perimeter text starts “EMI Recordings Ltd” and ends “Made In GT Britain” and the matrix numbers are YEX 142-3 and YEX 143-1.

The sleeve is in very good to excellent condition as seen from the pictures and the record itself also plays excellent.

Estimated Value : £15 – £20
