This box set was released on 18 October 2010 in the UK and one day later in the US as part of the 90th birthday celebrations for Ravi Shankar. It contains 3 remastered Ravi Shankar studio albums that George had also worked on plus a DVD of a 1974 concert.
The 3 studio albums are Shankar Family And Friends (1974), Ravi Shankar’s Music Festival From India (1976) and Chants Of India (1997) which the box set presents in reverse order with Chants Of India being disc 1, Ravi Shankar’s Music Festival From India being disc 2 and Shankar Family And Friends being disc 3. The DVD contains a previously unissued film of a Ravi Shankar performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on on 23 September 1974 lasting 1 hour and 6 minutes plus a more complete audio only track of the same concert lasting 1 hour and 37 minutes.
This limited edition set (10,000 copies ?) comes housed in a hinged box with the CDs and DVD housed in larger 22cm x 22cm cardboard covers. Two of the CDs contain inserts which I imagine also came with the original albums. There is also a 56 page hardback book containing very glossy photos, comments from George and Ravi, a piece about Indian music written by Ravi and some pen pictures on the musicians who appear.
My copy is shown below and as can be seen, apart from a 1″ tear on the spine, is in excellent condition.
Estimated Value : £40 – £60
