The first Christmas album by a Beatle was released in the UK and the US on 19 October 1999 and failed to chart in both territories. It was a CD only release at the time of issue though a vinyl version did come out on 12 October 2017 in the UK/Europe and 22 September 2017 in the US.
The album is a mixture of new Christmas songs and traditional Christmas songs and also contains a cover of The Beatles Christmas Time Is Here Again. Recording commenced in September 1998 and continued, off and on, until September 1999, with the sessions taking place at numerous studios in the UK and US. Among the many musicians lending a hand were Jeff Lynne, Timothy B Schmit (The Eagles) and Joe Perry (Aerosmith).
On 23 September 2003 it received a budget CD release in the US as part of Universal’s 20th Century Master Series under the title The Best Of Ringo Starr / The Christmas Collection.
