Released on 15 March 1968 Lady Madonna spent 2 weeks at number one in the UK charts. It was the last single on the Parlophone label, the remaining singles being on Apple. Very first copies came with a flyer advertising the Beatles fan club on one side and The Beatles Monthly magazine on the other – these are very hard to find now. I have 9 copies on 7″ single, the 7 listed below and 2 more in singles box sets.

First Press With Flyer

The pictures below are of my first press copy with fan club flyer, which is intact. You’ll see that it has the SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS text across the centre of the record which appears on a second press but doesn’t appear on third press copies from 1969. It has a push out centre and the matrix numbers 7XCE 18438-3 and 7XCE 18439-2 and a KT tax code. Visually the record looks excellent, nice and shiney and no nasty marks to speak of, and also plays very well, just some light crackle. The original Parlophone sleeve is also in very good to excellent condition, just some minor ringwear and a very small tear on the back. The intact fan club insert itself is in fabulous condition, just a few light creases but no writing or tears.

Estimated Value : £40 – £50

Second Press Push Out Centre

Second presses are identical to first presses in every way, they just don’t have the flyer mentioned above. The Pictures below are of my second press copy which has a push out centre and the matrix numbers 7XCE 18438-3 and 7XCE 18439-2 and a KT tax code. It has numerous light surface marks and a white mark on side 2 but plays through good, some crackle and the odd tick but no skips, sticks or jumps. For the time being it’s in a plain white sleeve.

Estimated Value : £2 – £3

Second Press Solid Centre

The Pictures below are of my second press copy which has a solid centre and the matrix numbers 7XCE 18438-3 and 7XCE 18439-2 and a KT tax code. Visually the record looks excellent but plays through with some crackle so probably rates very good. The sleeve would also probably rate very good, some ringwear and creasing.

Estimated Value : £3 – £5

Second Press No Centre

The Pictures below are of my second press copy which has had it’s centre pushed out, the matrix numbers 7XCE 18438-3 and 7XCE 18439-2. Despite it’s many light surface marks it plays through well, just some crackle here and there. It is in a plain sleeve at the moment.

Estimated Value : £2 – £3

Third Press

The pictures below are of my third press copy which has the matrix numbers 7XCE 18438-3 and 7XCE 18439-2. You’ll see it’s the same as a first/second press copy apart from not having the SOLD IN U.K. SUBJECT TO RESALE PRICE CONDITIONS, SEE PRICE LISTS text in the centre. The record looks excellent, apart from some hard to see black writing on the label, and also plays excellent. It does not yet have a proper Parlophone sleeve.

Estimated Value : £3 – £5

Fourth Press

In March 1976 all the Beatles singles were re released in new picture sleeves. I believe there is no difference at all in any of these pressings but, for the record, mine has the matrix numbers  7XCE 18438-5 and 7XCE 18439-3. Both the record, just some odd very feint crackle, and the sleeve are in excellent condition.

Estimated Value : £5

Picture Disc

Released on 14 March 1988 as part of the It Was Twenty Years Ago Today series. Being a picture disc I have never played it but it appears to be in excellent condition. Mine still has the original insert it came with advertising the Past Masters CDs.

Estimated Value : £15 – £20
