This 4 CD box set, simply entitled “Lennon”, was released in the UK on 30 October 1990 to celebrate what would have been John’s 50th birthday. It was a UK/Europe release on the Parlophone label under overall catalogue number CDS 79 5220 2, though each CD has it’s own individual catalogue number – CDP 7 95221 2, CDP 7 95222 2, CDP 7 95223 2 and CDP 7 95224 2. The US version was released at the same time on Capitol with the same catalogue number. There is nothing new on offer here, no outtakes etc, just 73 songs covering the majority of John’s singles and selections from his albums from Live Peace In Toronto to Menlove Ave. The whole of the Plastic Ono Band album and every track but I Don’t Want To Be A Soldier Mama, I Don’t Want To Die from the Imagine album are included. The 4 CDs are housed in a sturdy CD sized slipcase box and there’s also a booklet which contains the lyrics to the 59 tracks included that John either wrote or co wrote.
