Liverpool 8 was released in both the UK and the US on 14 January 2008. It managed to spend one week in the UK charts at number 91 whilst in the US it peaked at number 94 during a two week stay. It was released on Capitol in both terratories with the catalogue number 509995 17388 22.

Like Ringo Rama and Choose Love before it the album was recorded at Ringo’s Roccabella studio in London and the Whatinthewhatthe? Studio in LA . The only real guest appearance was that of Dave Stewart who co wrote the title track with Ringo and plays guitars on that track along with five others. He also replaced Ringo’s long time collaborator Mark Hudson as co producer of the album – the production credits read “Produced by Ringo Starr and Mark Hudson; Re-Produced by Ringo Starr and David Stewart.”

Although there was no vinyl release, on 15 January 2008 the US also received a special edition in the form of a USB wristband. This contained the album in MP3 format, a personal video message from Ringo, a behind the scenes interview video from Ringo, track by track video commentry by Ringo, two ringtones, photos and a bio.

Liverpool 8 not only refers to the city of Liverpool being selected as the European Capital Of Culture in 2008 but also to Ringo’s place of birth – Dingle is in the Liverpool 8 (L8) postal area.
