Released on 16 November 1973 in the UK and 29 October 1973 in the US, Mind Games spent nine weeks in the UK charts peaking at number 26 whilst it managed to climb to number 18 in the US charts. It’s relative lack of UK chart success was probably due to it being released on the same day as the Mind Games album. It is the first of John’s singles not credited to The Plastic Ono Band and the first not to feature a Yoko track on the B side.
I have 2 slightly different copies on 7″ single shown below
The pictures below are of my push out centre (there wasn’t a solid centre) first press which has the matrix numbers 7YCE 21736-2U and 7YCE 21737-2U. As was usual at this time the US matrix numbers of S-45-X-48158-Z10 and S-45-X-45169-Z10 respectively appear on each side. The record is in excellent condition, playing through with no problems whatsoever, whilst the original picture sleeve is also in excellent condition, just the slightest touch of ringwear.
Estimated Value : £5 – £10
The pictures below are of another push out centre first press which again has the matrix numbers 7YCE 21736-2U and 7YCE 21737-2U and the US matrix numbers of S-45-X-48158-Z10 and S-45-X-45169-Z10. The label on this one is slightly different in that it has what was going to be the original release date (9.11.73) at 3 o’clock on the A side. John probably put the release date back one week to 16 November 1973 as he wanted to give Yoko’s single Run, Run, Run, that was released in the UK on 9 November, a chance. The record is in excellent condition, just the odd bit of very light crackle, whilst the original picture sleeve is also in very good to excellent condition, just a touch of ringwear and a little wear around the opening. A rarer copy than the one above.
Estimated Value : £15 – £20
