Ringo 2012 was released on 30 January 2012 in the UK and 31 January 2012 in the US. It again failed to register in the UK charts, apparently selling only 752 copies in the first week of release, though did manage to reach number 80 in the US during a brief two week stay, selling nearly 6500 copies in it’s first week. The US was the only country to get a vinyl release, everywhere else was CD only.
It was recorded at the Roccabella Sudios in LA and later mixed at the Roccabella Studios in London and, as per usual, featured a few guest artists, a couple of whom co wrote the songs with Ringo. Dave Stewart co wrote and appears on In Liverpool, Joe Walsh appears on Slow Down, which he co wrote, and Wings, Edgar Winter appears on Rock Island Line and Slow Down and Don Was appears on Rock Island Line, Step Lightly and Slow Down.
The title of the album is a nod to Ringo’s self titled album of 1973 though other titles considered were Motel California, Another #9 and Wings. With only nine tracks and a meagre running time of less than thirty minutes it is the shortest album Ringo has ever released.
The CD was released on Hip-O Records in both the UK/Europe, catalogue number 0602527918020, and the US, catalogue number B0016415-02. Both territories also received a special edition release that included a short 15 minute bonus DVD of Ringo discussing the album. The UK/Europe catalogue number for this release is 0602527937885 whilst in the US, where it was an Amazon exclusive, it’s B0016482-10.
