I have 8 copies of Sgt Pepper’s lonely Hearts Club Band on vinyl (2 are in the mono and stereo box sets). These are my first press mono copy, first press stereo copy, sixth press stereo copy, original picture disc, 50th Anniversary edition and 50th Anniversary picture disc.

Mono First Press

The pictures below are the first press mono one which was released on 1 June 1967. The matrix numbers on this copy are XEX 637-1 and XEX 638-1. The perimeter text starts The Gramophone Co Ltd and there is Sold in U.K. subject… text below the yellow Parlophone. It comes with the flame inner sleeve.

The sleeve is in very good to excellent condition, as seen from the pictures, whilst the inner sleeve has a small split to one of it’s sides. The record itself plays excellent throughout. There is some very feint crackle here and there, most noticable between tracks. The cut outs are still intact.

Estimated Value : £50 – £60

Stereo First Press

The pictures below are the first press stereo one which was released on 1 June 1967. The details are really the same as the mono one above, the matrix numbers are YEX 637-1 and YEX 638-1. The perimeter text starts The Gramophone Co Ltd and there is Sold in U.K. subject… text below the yellow Parlophone. It comes with the flame inner sleeve.

The sleeve is in very good to excellent condition, as seen from the pictures, whilst the inner sleeve has a very small rip at the top and very small splits on each side. The record itself plays excellent throughout. There is some very feint crackle here and there, most noticable between tracks, and a couple of feint pops. The cut outs are still intact.

Estimated Value : £50 – £60

Stereo Sixth Press

Below this are pictures of my stereo version which was probably pressed some time between the summer of 1976 and October 1980. The perimeter text starts “EMI Recordings Ltd” and ending “Made In GT Britain” and the matrix numbers are YEX 637-2 and YEX 638-3.

The sleeve is in very good to excellent condition as seen from the pictures and the record itself also plays excellent. The cut outs are still intact.

Estimated Value : £15 – £20

Picture Disc

Below are pictures of my picture disc which dates from, I think, 1979. The serial number is PHO 7027. Like all these original picture discs the record itself was maunufactures in West Germany whilst the sleeve was printed and made in Great Britain by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd. It is the same picture on both sides. There are a lot of fakes around for this picture disc but something to look out for to ensure you have a genuine UK copy is that the matrix number PHO 7027 A and To George & Mabel is etched into the run out on side one and the matrix number PHO 7027 B and Another Winner From Ernie is etched into the run out on side 2.

I’m a firm believer that picture discs and coloured vinyl are for collecting only and not for playing so have never had this on my turntable. Visually, however, it appears to be in perfect condition whilst the sleeve would rate as excellent, just the odd crease and some minor scuffing

Estimated Value : £25

50th Anniversary Press

The pictures below are of my 50th anniversary press which was released on 26 May 2017. This release is a double album with the first LP featuring a new stereo mix of the album by Giles Martin whilst the second LP features various takes from the Sgt Pepper sessions, again mixed by Giles Martin. The matrix numbers on this copy are BH71657-01 A1 and BH71657-01 B1 on LP1 and BH71985-01 A1 and BH71985-01 B1 on LP2. LP1 also has Miles Abbey Road ½ Speed and 5745539 etched into each side whilst LP2 has Miles Abbey Road ½ Speed and 5745540. It comes with the cut outs, two flame inner sleeves and a four page information insert.

Interestingly, although With A Little Help From My Friends is listed correctly on the LP itself, it’s listed incorrectly as A Little Help From My Friends on the sleeve!

Everything is in just about mint condition. I even have the small sticker that was on the outside of the shrinkwrap

Estimated Value : £35

50th Anniversary Picture Disc

The pictures below are of my 50th anniversary picture disc press which was released on 15 December 2017 and contains the new 2017 stereo mix of the album by Giles Martin. It’s been produced as a “limited edition” but I do not know as yet how many it’s limited to.

Like the copy above, With A Little Help From My Friends is listed correctly on the sticker attached to the front but listed incorrectly as A Little Help From My Friends on the sleeve!

I won’t be playing my copy so, to date, it’s still in it’s shrink wrap.

Estimated Value : £30
