Released on 1 November 1963 this EP spent 29 weeks in the EP chart, peaking at number 2, and twelve weeks in the singles charts, peaking at number 19. All this is quite surprising as it was the third EP running where all four tracks were taken from the Please Please Me album and that was still selling in vast quantities. Again, the original numbers are credited to McCartney-Lennon.

I have 4 copies on vinyl, the 3 shown below and one more in a box set.

First Press

The pictures below are of one of my first press copies. It has RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963 at 9 o’clock on the label where a second press doesn’t have this. This is the earliest first press copy where the title is printed as No.1 as opposed to NO.1 on the later first presses. You’ll see that there is no SOLD IN THE UK…text across the centre of the record and the perimeter text starts THE PARLOPHONE CO LTD… as opposed to THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD…. which came on second presses from mid 1969. The matrix numbers on this copy are 7TCE 764-1N and 7TCE 765-1N and has an KT tax code. The record plays very good to excellent throughout, just some occasional feint crackle, perhaps more so on side 2. The original sleeve (later sleeves have a tab cut out on the rear at the opening) is in very good to excellent condition as can be seen by the pictures, just some minor ring wear and a few slight creases.

Estimated Value : £5 – £10

Later First Press

The pictures below are of another first press copy. It has RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963 at 9 o’clock on the label where a second press doesn’t have this. This is actually a later first press copy where the title is printed as NO,1 as opposed to No.1 on the very first presses. You’ll see that there is no SOLD IN THE UK…text across the centre of the record and the perimeter text starts THE PARLOPHONE CO LTD… as opposed to THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD…. which came on second presses from mid 1969. The matrix numbers on this copy are 7TCE 764-1N and 7TCE 765-1N and has an MT tax code. The record plays excellent throughout, just some occasional feint crackle. The original sleeve (later sleeves have a tab cut out on the rear at the opening) is in excellent condition as can be seen by the pictures, just some minor ring wear and a small sticker removal mark on the front top right.

Estimated Value : £5 – £10

Later First Press Without Cover

As above this is also a later first press with the same matrix numbers but a KT tax code. Visually there are a lot of marks on the record but it plays very well throughout, just some odd feint crackle and the odd tick. There are no skips, sticks or jumps

Estimated Value : £3 – £5
