Released 24 February 2004 in the UK and one day earlier in the US this box set features all six of George’s Dark Horse Records releases, of which the first four had never had a CD release in the UK, plus a bonus DVD. Each studio CD has been remastered and expanded to include bonus tracks whilst the Live In Japan CD gets a SACD 5.1 remix. The 75 minute DVD includes a Dark Horse feature, seven promo videos of George’s songs (Got My Mind Set On You appears twice) with introductions, four selections from Live In Japan, with introductions, and three selections from the Shanghai Surprise film, with introductions. The DVD is housed in a 40 page hardback book which contains various articles, press clippings and pictures.
It should be noted that not all of George’s Dark Horse output is present. Lay His Head, the B side of the single Got My Mind Set On You, is missing along with Cockamamie Business and Poor Little Girl that George recorded especially for his Best Of Dark Horse 1976 – 1989 album. Cheer Down appears as a live version on both the Live In Japan album and on the DVD but the studio version is not included in this set. The videos for Blow Away and All Those Years Ago are also missing.
A week after this box set release each CD was also made available to purchase seperately whilst the DVD received a standalone release on 4 November 2004.
The pictures below are of my box set. Everything is as close to mint as you can get without it being brand new.
