Wake Up My Love was released in the UK on 8 November 1982 to promote the Gone Troppo album released on the same date. Like the album, this single failed to chart in the UK though George’s complete lack of interest in promoting both didn’t help. In the US it was released on 27 October 1982 and managed to reach number 53 in the charts.
This would be the last single George would release in the UK for five years though the US did see two further singles in I Really Love You from Gone Troppo, released on 9 February 1983, and I Don’t Want To Do It, a Dylan song George recorded for the Porky’s Revenge film soundtrack, released on 22 April 1985. Both singles failed to chart.
The pictures below are of my solid centre first press copy (there were no push out centre copies) which has the matrix numbers 929864-7 A1 and 929864-7 B-1. It also has tone hand etched into the A side run off. The record has one or two light marks but plays more than excellent, just the odd touch of ultra light crackle on the B side. It is housed in a WEA/A&M/Warner Bros company sleeve (there was no picture sleeve with this release) that is in excellent condition.
