Released on 3 November 1998 in both the UK and the US, this is a highlights package of the John Lennon Anthology box set released on the same day though half of the tracks have been edited down from their Anthology versions. It spent only one week in the UK charts at number 76 and failed to chart at all in the US.
By this time it was all about CDs with vinyl production at an all time low making it very hard to locate. The pictures below are of my first, and only, press copy which has the matrix numbers 498673-1-A-1-01-1, 498673-1-B-1-01-4, 498674-1-A-1XX-01-1 and 498674-1-B-1-01-1. Also stamped into the run outs is “Sterling” which is the logo of Sterling Sound Studio in New York. It is in excellent condition, all four sides playing through immaculately. The gatefold sleeve and the two inner sleeves are also in excellent condition, not a mark on them.
As for valuation you don’t see many come up for sale to judge. At the moment (July 2016) there are 12 for sale on Discogs ranging from £40 (VG condition) to £115 (sealed copy) though none of these are located in the UK. There are two on eBay – one is a buy it now for £98 (seller says mint), and the other (again, seller says mint) has just sold for £88.
Estimated Value : £75 – £100
