Originally released on 3 October 1975 in the UK and 22 September 1975 in the US, Extra Texture was George’s last album to appear on the Apple label and was, in fact, the last studio album Apple released. It spent just four weeks in the UK charts peaking at number 16 whilst in the US it managed to climb to number 8.
The majority of the recording was done at the A&M Sudios in LA between April and June 1975 and amongst the contributing musicians are Klaus Voormann, Leon Russell, Billy Preston, Jesse Ed Davis, Jim Keltner and Nicky Hopkins.
It received it’s initial official release on CD in the UK on 27 January 1992 when it was released on Apple/Parlophone under UK catalogue number CD PAS 10009 with international catalogue number CDP 7980802. The initial US CD release was also around this time on Apple/Capitol under catalogue number CDP 7 98080 2. There were no bonus tracks on these releases.
On 22 September 2014 in the UK and 23 September 2014 in the US a new remastered version of the album was released along with all of George’s other Apple albums. Both releases carry the catalogue number 0602537913992. This version contained one bonus track, which was a re recording of This Guitar (Can’t Keep From Crying) that George did in 1992 to which Ringo, Dhani and vocalist Kara DioGuardi added overdubs some ten years or so later. It could either be bought seperately or as part of the Apple Years 1968-1975 box set.
I have 2 copies on CD, the one shown below and one in the Apple Years box set.
