Ringo’s first studio album of new material for nearly five years was released in the UK and the US on 25 March 2003. It failed to chart in the UK but in the US it managed to reach number 113. Having left the Mercury label in 2000 after they offered no promotion for his Christmas album this was Ringo’s first release on the Koch label and would be CD only – no vinyl.
The album was recorded at Ringo’s Rocca Bella studio in London and the Whatinthewhatthe? and Village Recorder Studios in LA . Special guest appearances include Eric Clapton, who provides the guitar solos for Imagine Me There and the George Harrison tribute Never Without You, Dave Gilmour, who provides the guitar solos for Missouri Loves Company and I Think Therefore I Rock And Roll and Willie Nelson, who sings on Write One For Me. The track I Think Therefore I rock And Roll even includes a “growl” from the late Roy Orbison. There’s also a bit of Paul McCartney interest in the fact that the track English Garden includes lines from Let Em In!
The catalogue number for the UK/Europe release was 238 429-2 whilst in the US there were two different releases, the standard release and a limited edition release, restricted to the first 100,000 copies, that included a 49 minute DVD the recording sessions. Both had catalogue number KOC-CD-8429. All releases contained a bonus hidden track, I Really Love Her, at the end of the album.
On 11 November 2003 Koch released a three disc Deluxe Edition in the US under catalogue number KOC-CD-9533 that added three more new tracks to the album, Blink, OK Ray and I’m Home, and came with a yellow cover. It also included a 40 minute interview disc and a 70 minute DVD that included the original material from the limited edition mentioned above plus a making of the Never Without You video and the video itself.
