Released on 30 May 1969 The Ballad Of John And Yoko spent 3 weeks at number one in the UK charts, the last Beatles single to make number one. It was actually released whilst Get Back was still at number one and the A side features only John and Paul. I have 6 copies on 7″ single, the 4 listed below and 2 more in singles box sets.
First Press (Solid Centre)
The pictures below are of my first press copy that has a solid centre and the matrix numbers 7XCE 21306-1U and 7 XCE 21307-1U and a KT tax code. You’ll see it has a darkish Apple label and also the Sold in UK….. text across the centre – second presses from late 1970 did not have this text. The record is visually in excellent condition and plays likewise, maybe the odd bit of feint crackle. The Apple sleeve suffers from some ring wear and creasing, especially at the opening
Estimated Value : £5 – £10
First Press (Push(ed) Out Centre)
The pictures below are of my first press copy that has had it’s centre pushed out and also has the matrix numbers 7XCE 21306-1U and 7 XCE 21307-1U and a KT tax code. You’ll see it has a darker Apple label and a small (p) next to 1969 at 9 o’clock on the label, second presses have a larger (P). Despite having surface marks the record plays very well, the odd bit of feint crackle on both sides and a few ticks at the start of side B. The Apple sleeve suffers from some ring wear and creasing and, as can be seen in the pictures, has a large tear at the front.
Estimated Value : £3 – £5
Third Press (Green Sleeve)
In March 1976 all the Beatles singles were re released in new picture sleeves. I believe there is no difference at all in any of these pressings but, for the record, mine has the matrix numbers 7XCE 21306-1U and 7XCE 21307-1U. The record, just some odd very feint crackle, is in excellent condition whilst the sleeve has ring wear and creasing.
Estimated Value : £5
Released on 30 May 1989 as part of the It Was Twenty Years Ago Today series. Being a picture disc I have never played it but it appears to be in excellent condition. Mine still has the original insert advertising the other picture discs
Estimated Value : £20 – £25
