The White Album received it’s initial release on CD on 24 August 1987. On the same day HMV released a limited edition (7000 copies) LP sized box set containing the CD, a badge and a booklet. It had a two week run in the charts, peaking at number 18.
It was released again on CD on 9 September 2009 as part of the stereo remasters where it had a three week run in the charts peaking at number 21. In the initial week of the remastered releases The Beatles held 17 of the top 100 positions. The White Album was the fifth highest of these.
The latest release is the 50th anniversary edition that was released on 9 November 2018 and in it’s first week of release, all formats, entered the UK charts at number 4 and the US charts at number 6.. It is available as either a 3CD set, containing Giles Martin’s newly remastered stereo mix plus the Esher demos, or a lavish box set, as shown below.
I have 5 copies on CD, the two shown below, and 3 more in boxsets.
Original 1987 Release

50th Anniversary Box Set
The pictures below are of my 50th anniversary box set which was released on 9 November 2018. This release is a six CD and 1 blu ray set that comes in a 164 page hardback book. Each book is individually numbered, mine is 0105333, and has a transparent slipsleeve that has pictures of each Beatle on the front and the track listing on the rear. Also included is a reproduction of the original White Album poster/lyric sheet and reproductions of the four portrait prints of John, Paul, George and Ringo. The four portrait prints are not of the same quality as the originals – I once bought a set of repros on eBay and, unfortunately, they are similar to those!
CDs 1 and 2 contain a newly remastered stereo mix of the White Album by Giles Martin sourced directly from the original four-track and eight-track session tapes.
CD3 contains the Esher demos which date back to May 1968 when The Beatles met up at George’s house in Esher and recorded acoustic demos for 27 songs.
CDs 4, 5 and 6 are titled “Sessions” and contain 50 additional recordings, most previously unreleased, from White Album studio sessions, all newly mixed from the four-track and eight-track session tapes.
The blu ray contains the 2018 album mix in high resolution PCM stereo, a 2018 DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 album mix, a 2018 Dolby True HD 5.1 album mix and a 2018 direct transfer of the album’s original mono mix ,
Everything is in just about mint condition. I even have the small sticker that was on the outside of the shrinkwrap
