The third single from Double Fantasy, Watching The Wheels was released in the UK on 27 March 1981 and two weeks earlier on 13 March 1981 in the US. It spent a total of six weeks in the UK charts, peaking at number 30, whilst in the US it managed to climb to number 10. It is basically John’s response to all those who questioned his five years away from the music scene.
The photograph on the cover was taken by Paul Goresh, an amateur photographer and fan of John’s, who was later to take the photo of John signing the cover of Double Fantasy for Mark Chapman on the evening of his death.
I don’t know why but, although the cover has Yoko’s B side listed correctly as “Yes, I’m Your Angel”, the B side label has dropped the “Yes” and has it listed as just “I’m Your Angel”!
Details of the copy I own are shown below.
I also have a CEMA coloured vinyl copy of (Just Like) Starting Over where Watching The Wheels is on the B side. Details can be found here
In addition I have a US copy in the 2010 US Record Store Day John Lennon Singles Bag here
The pictures below are of my first press copy which has the matrix numbers K79207 A1 and K79207 B1. It also has STRAWBERRY etched into the run out on each side plus W-10 on the A side and W-11 on the B side. The record is in more than excellent condition, playing through beautifully. The picture sleeve is also in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures.
