Released on 4 March 1966 this EP spent 13 weeks in the EP chart, six of those weeks at number 1. Interestingly, even though Yesterday was released as a single in the States and made number 1 but not released as a single in the UK, this EP failed to bother the UK singles charts. Also worth noting, purely for novelty value (or was it?) is that each Beatle as a turn at lead vocals on the four tracks.
I have 2 copies on vinyl, the one shown below and one more in a box set.
The pictures below are of my first press copy. It has (p) 1965 at 9 o’clock on the label and has SOLD IN THE UK…text across the centre of the record. The perimeter text starts THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD….. as opposed to EMI RECORDS LTD….. which appears on second presses from the late 70s. The matrix numbers on this copy are 7TCE 894-1 and 7TCE 895-1 and it has a KT tax code. The record plays very well throughout though there is some light crackle that doesn’t overwhelm the music. The original sleeve is in very good condition as can be seen by the pictures, just some minor ring wear and creasing.
Estimated Value : £20 – £25
